I think of all the smells in the world I love the smell of cookies baking in the oven the most. If they made that into a perfume I would gladly wear it. I can see it now, CHANEL, eau de cookies..... In the meantime I have to do with the smells that comes out of my oven, and today it's the spice cookies turn. They are so good, soft and chewy with a great taste of spices.
Makes 30

2 cups plain flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1 1/2 stick soft butter
1 1/4 cups sugar
5 tablespoons dark molasses
1 large egg

  1. Reheat oven to 350F(180C)
  2. In a large bowl mix together flour, baking powder and spices. Set aside.
  3. Beat butter and sugar light soft, add molasses and egg and mix well.
  4. Add the flour mixture, a little at a time.
  5. Work it until you have a smooth dough.
  6. Divide the dough into 30 pieces and roll each piece to a ball.
  7. Roll in sugar and place on a baking tray.
  8. Bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until golden.
  9. Cool on a wire rack.
